, virginia, plans to open an adult themed store in the old town area has riled some community leaders. they stay store will ruin the wholesome environment they've worked very hard to create there. the store owner says her shop is being unfairly judged. julie carey has more on this. >> reporter: old town Ă‘imanassa local leaders have spent hundreds of thousands to make it family friendly. that's why some are alarmed to learn, this new store opening soon will feature adult items. the window promises dvds, lotions, lingerie and more. they've called a community meeting. >> it is a big quhern a porno shop wants to locate here. we have them in prince william county and manassas and i've never raised a fuss about it. i've never gone out to shut them down. right here in old town is not the place to do it. >> reporter: the director of the arts center down the block agrees. >> we have the center for the arts. we have a lot of classes in the arts. we have thousands of children that come through every year. and their parents, and i think it is absolutely the wrong place to have a shop like this.

:16. a hurricane watch has been extended to virginia beaches. it's creeping up the coast. it's a matter of timing and expecting conditions within the next 36-48 hours as we're a day and a half away from the storm impact us weather-wise. waves will build up today and tomorrow and then really especially as they head through friday morning. there's hurricane earl, fiona lagging behind. winds now 125 miles per hour. it's a category 3 storm, weaker than it was just yesterday, but it's still a major hurricane and still chugging to the northwest at 14 miles per hour, which means it's a fast-moving system and although it's slowing down a little bit, it's still expected to be a fast pass as it rolls up the east coast. that was a fast transition. i want to show you what we're expecting. winds forecast to be 120 miles per hour when it's off the north carolina coastline, and the actual hurricane force winds in this deeper shading here, it's 90 miles across clipping the outer banks, will it clip ocean this? the next time frame is the evening hours through saturday morning. we're right on the edge in ocean cit

are a little bit color. petersburg, west virginia near 100. it is the 53rd time that the airport has hit 90 or better this year. we are 1 away from tying the record of 54 for a number of days in the 90's in a single year. it looks like we will tie that tomorrow and probably go past that as we work our way through september. 65-77 for the overnight low, but things are about to change. it will stay clear tonight, and a good deal of sun tomorrow, but to weather systems -- two weather systems showing aea up. rl is one of three tropical systems -- earl is a power pack, category 4 storm. it has gone back between category three and four. the water is very warm here and is moving into favorable conditions. the eye has tightened up. it is a category 4 storm with winds over -- wind over155 make it a category five. it is just east of cape had it -- take hatter's as we go into the early morning hours friday. it is sitting out there over the warm waters of the atlantic. instead of moving more toward us, it will take a turn to the northeast. the front coming in from the mountains will help to keep it out

in massachusetts in order to prepare for earl's roorks a -- arrival. virginia's governor bob macdonald declared a state of emergency just as a precaution. allowing the state to get ready ahead of the storm. stay with wjz for the latest on hurricane earl that tracks the storm. get forecast updates and see livedoppler radar, go to wjz.com. >>> another hot and more humid day. the temperature high enough early enough to close baltimore county schools early. outside right now, with mostly sunny and still very warm. we'll has weather and traffic together. bob turk is here with the updated numbers from first warning weather. bob? >> this is the first day since school started with temperatures of 90 plus. the dew point is up a little bit from what it was yesterday. we were at 61. right now, it's at 63. our temperature at 94. d.c. at 97. cumberland again at 97. ocean city at 86. and oakland, 80. but with a dew point at 63, that 94 feels like 95. so it's a little hotter. the hottest spot we can find down in easton, where it's pretty humid, at 99 degrees. looks like another warm one coming up tomorrow. ma

and virginia and the outer band still off the coast and it's going to be making its way in as we go into the overnight hours. and we are also going to be seeing a cold front. yes, that's what you are seeing. a cold front is going to be push in. a cold front and hurricane earl. here's the wider view i wanted to show you. you can see that eye and boy, that eye is really getting it act together. the storm getting its act together. this will start to weaken a little bit as it starts to move closer to us. but the bad news is, it is still going to be a major hurricane. it is a category 4. the forward movement is north, northwest at 16 miles an hour. it's 633 miles away west, southwest of bermuda. we are looking at that. but also check out what's happening. so it gets to ocean city, like i said, it will encounter some sheer. it will weaken it and also run into cooler water and that weakens it as well. forecast at 115 miles an hour. that's still a category 3. then it's going to get out of here, head into the north. and then we are going to be looking much better as we go into the weekend. h
